This year’s CRC was an exciting time for Student Activities. Former SA Chair Amy Weaver won Region XII Student Activities Chair of the Year. Congratulations, Amy! Over the summer, we also received notice that last year’s student design team won second place for their HVAC design for the Mansueto Library at the University of Chicago.
With all this success, other chapters were eager to ask how Central Florida continues to be so successful with student membership. The Colombia and Puerto Rico chapters have asked for our advice and assistance as they prepare to assemble the first Caribbean and South American teams for this year’s design competition. In addition to competing, Colombia will send some of their student members to this year’s Winter Conference in Dallas and look forward to meeting members of our UCF student branch.
I had a great conversation with the West Coast chapter SA Chair and we’ve agreed to frequently communicate as we develop new strategies for attracting students at university and high school levels. This year looks to be an exciting time for ASHRAE at UCF. We are currently expecting four senior design teams and the club will be hold the first annual ASHRAE Student Dodgeball Tournament later this Fall. Stay tuned next month for updates on our senior design teams, including a new competition category and a partnership with Seminole County high school students to renovate a new museum in Sanford.
